The CE MARK
‘Your Product’s Passport to Europe'

University of Evansville - July 28, 2005
8:30am – 11:30am

For anyone wishing to sell a wide variety of manufactured goods in Europe, the CE mark is an essential certification mark that allows products to be sold freely through out the European Union. However, obtaining that certification can be confusing. Known by the abbreviation CE (which stands for Conformité Européenné), the marking certifies that the products comply with European health, safety, environmental and consumer protection requirements. Products that do not meet these official standards may not be sold in Europe.

CE Marking Expert, Yvonne Halpaus, discussed:

  • History and Development of E.U. Directives
    Products that use self-Certification process
  • Products that must be certified by a European
    Notified/Competent Body
  • Compliance with The NEW WEEE (Waste Electrical and
Electronic Equipment) effective August 13, 2005
  • Compliance with the NEW RoHS (Restrictions of certain
Hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment)
    Effective July 1, 2006
