Wood Packaging Seminar/Video Conference

The Institute for Global Enterprise in Indiana, in partnership with the U.S. Department of Commerce, the Indiana District Export Council, and the Tri-State World Trade Council, hosted a breakfast briefing entitled: "Wood Packaging - ISPM 15: Will Your Products Be Stopped at the Border?" at the University of Evansville on February 22, 2006.

Via the use of UE video-conferencing equipment, ten representatives of local companies beamed to the main presentation at the FedEx Center in Indianapolis. Senior officials with the Animal Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) - a division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and the American Lumber Standards Committee presented current compliance standards for regulating wood packaging material (WPM) in the international export of commodities.

The discussion also outlined diverse fumigation techniques, heat treating processes, and wood package labeling regulations as various countries world-wide have unique standards in their acceptance of foreign wood packages.

A sample of Evansville companies in attendance includes B & M Plastics, Midwestern Pet Foods, Marley & Wertz, Inc, and Lucent Polymers.
